We are experiencing a rapid healthcare delivery shift from the inpatient setting to outpatient and ambulatory settings. This is being driven by advances in technology and techniques, as well as reimbursement acceptance most payers and pressures from evolving patient expectations. Providers have more choices on where to perform procedural care, ranging from hospitals to outpatient surgery departments to freestanding ASCs, or even office-based labs. Given the potential efficiencies that can be gained and positive experience with the OP setting, providers often follow the path of least resistance and gravitate to non-hospital settings. However, in the short term, reimbursement continues to be much higher for care provided at a hospital compared to an ASC, as well as complex legal and regulatory hurdles at both the federal and state levels, creating challenges and opportunities.

While the long-term shift is inevitable, profitability for an ASC cannot happen overnight. But, as the industry continues to move in this direction, hospitals and other providers must understand the legal and regulatory considerations to make this shift as smooth as possible.

The development of an ASC strategy is a must-have for all hospitals, regardless of where in the decision-making or planning process.

Corazon experts and special guest speaker, Dan Mulholland, Senior Partner at Horty Springer and Mattern, explored legal and regulatory considerations for the pursuit of an ambulatory development strategy while understanding the financial, operational, and clinical impact.

In many states across the country, the shift and acceptance of cardiac procedures to the ASC is underway. However, for some states such as our own Commonwealth, this has been slow to evolve. Our experts will share their knowledge of legal, regulatory, and other considerations relative to the acceptance of coronary procedures in an ASC setting.

During this webinar, our speakers:

  • Reviewed the current state of ASC development and trends in various hot spots around the country;
  • Explored key financial, operational, and clinical considerations in the development of an effective strategy;
  • Discussed the legal and regulatory considerations to ensure a smooth implementation;
  • Provided a high-level review of consensus of what it will take to ensure appropriate patient selection, protocols, and equipment for patient safety and stellar outcomes.
